Who are they?
Kembara Kitchen was founded in 2013 by husband and wife duo William Cheah and Yi Lyn Chan. They have been coordinating several food aid projects to flood-stricken areas since 2014.
When Malaysia's MCO was first imposed, they sprang into action with a group of volunteers in tow, to serve those in need. They started off by supplying food to Covid19 treatment hospitals and continued onto giving hot meals to frontliners such as the police and firefighters. Care packages containing staples such as rice, oil, noodles, face masks, canned and dried foods are delivered to families who are struggling to survive. The group has also sent aid to Zoo Negara, Orang Asli villagers, old-folks homes and the disabled.
What is the #KembaraBabyAid programme?
One of the latest developments that Kembara has announced is an issue that we at LULLA feel so strongly about - an influx of newborn babies are being abandoned at hospitals, presumably due to the pandemic conditions. Kembara has dedicated themselves to providing for 20 babies for the next three months.
We are pledging to donate 10% of all purchases until the end of July to assist Kembara in supplying aid to these newborns in need. As mothers ourselves, we cannot imagine the pain these families are currently enduring; it is absolutely heartbreaking.
